Rotary International, District 9110 Nigeria has donated medical equipment, instruments and consumables to Ita Elewa Primary Health Centre in Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos state.
 
The district, which oversees the activities of all Rotary clubs in Lagos and Ogun states, made the donation in partnership with one of the clubs in the district- Rotary Club of Ikorodu Golden.
 
Speaking during the donation ceremony on Thursday, March 25, 2019, the club president, Tawa Ayeni said, “We made it a point of duty to do this today because one of the areas of focus of Rotary is maternal and child health which is part of what we have come to execute here today. This items we are donating will benefit everyone patronizing this centre.
“Because we know the government cannot do it alone, Rotary has been supporting government and communities all over the world. We know there are many people in our community that cannot even afford paracetamol, that is why we have decided to assist in our own little way”, she said.
 
The District Governor, Kola Sodipo, while delivering his speech stated, “This is the fifth of the series of projects we are currently carrying out with Lagos State Primary Health Care Board which involves upgrading of primary health centres in the state. What we do is identify the needs of the health centres and provide them.”
 
Speaking further, he said, “You can see the medical items and consumables here that cut across board, including items for family planning. What we have done is ensure that when a patient gets here, he or she can get first hand primary treatment which will save other secondary health institutions a lot of stress.”
 
The Medical Officer of Health, Ikorodu Local Government Area, Dr Oludolapo Sotunde, in her remarks expressed her appreciation to the club. “Am very delighted that the major items we really needed here such as the oxygen cylinder, the examination lamp, the benches and the rest have been provided by the Rotary club”, she said.
 
“We assure you that all the consumables and in-consumables will be put to good use. We will also give you a feedback on how the drugs were used”, she added.
 
Also present was the Supervisor for Works in the Ikorodu Local Government Area, Yusuf Lawal who represented the Executive Chairman and the Supervisor for Health, Musbau Rotinwa.
