Rotary Club of Victoria Garden City has once again done what it knows how to do best. The club in its 26 years of existence, has over the years carried out live changing projects in its community and environs.
The Rotary club, through its members, has offered vocational training programmes, renovated hospitals, donated medical equipment and medicines, donated dictionaries and other educational materials to schools with some schools being renovated by the club.
The club has also contributed towards preserving our environment through planting of trees in strategic areas. These and many other projects have been carried out by the club's past presidents in the past years.
This 2022-2023 Rotary year when we have been asked by the Rotary International President to "Imagine Rotary", the club, under the leadership of the current president, Imaginative President Omotunde Olaleye has again impacted lives.
Within the short period of time as the club president, Rotarian Olaleye who assumed office at the start of the Rotary year on the 1st of July 2022, has carried out several projects.
The club had earlier in July, planted trees at the Lekki Conservation Center, Lagos as part of its "Preserving the Environment project" for the year. The club has also sponsored 10 youths in the Rotary Youths Leadership Academy (RYLA) 2022, a training programme organized for youths between the ages of 14 and 25 years of age, recently held between August 21 and August 28 at the Leadership Training Centre (Sea School) in Apapa, Lagos.
The latest project done by the club is the renovation of Heritage Homes Orphanage in Lekki. Three damaged doors were replaced with new ones while the remaining faulty doors were repaired and repainted, faulty door locks and handles were replaced with new ones, the generator house was renovated, and carpet grass was installed in the children's playground. All these were carried out as requested by the home administrators during the needs assessment carried out by the club.
The renovations were unveiled by the District Governor, Omotunde Lawson, FCAI, FFDG (First Female District Governor) alongside the club president and members of the club during the District Governor's official visit to the club on Saturday, September 3.
The 10 RYLA beneficiaries were also presented with their certificates and gifted one dictionary each. All members of the club were also decorated with an official club identity card, a new initiative by the imaginative president.
The club's newly acquired virtual streaming equipment was also commissioned and one new Rotarian was inducted into the club by the DG. The newly replaced club's charter certificate was unveiled and board members were presented and decorated.
