Past District Governor Kenneth Mugisha of Rotary International, District 9211 Uganda, has assured Nigerian Rotarians that they are not alone in the journey towards eradication of polio in the country while describing them as “people of actions”.
 “Yesterday, I was watching a football match between Liverpool and Barcelona. I support Manchester United personally but I learnt that slogan ‘You will never walk alone’ because I saw people of action at the airport", PDG Mugisha
PDG Mugisha gave the assurance while delivering his speech at the 37th District Conference of Rotary International, District 9110 Nigeria which comprises all Rotary clubs in Lagos and Ogun states. The 2019 Joint Rotary/Rotaract Inspiration District Conference held in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital, had district leaders and their spouses, Rotarians, Rotaractors, as well as traditional rulers in attendance.
 
PDG Mugisha who represented Rotary International President Barry Rassin at the 4 days conference which started on Wednesday, May 1 and lasted till Saturday, May 4, thanked Nigerian Rotarians for leading the way in the polio eradication campaign.
 
“Coming out of the airport, I saw that box which shows “End Polio Now”. People have seen the endemic problem you have had over the years and that Rotarians, serving together, has deemed it fit to take action towards the eradication of polio. I was so touched. Thank you very much for such a very good initiative but I know you are not alone”, PDG Mugisha told attendees at the conference.
 
Speaking further, he said, “Yesterday, I was watching a football match between Liverpool and Barcelona. I support Manchester United personally but I learnt that slogan ‘You will never walk alone’ because I saw people of action at the airport.
 
“Nigeria, having been one of the last three with the last cases of paralyses caused by the polio virus, you have never waited and you have never looked back. Through your clubs, you have raised funds”, he said.
 
“As an Assistant Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator, I share an office with the person in charge of our zone towards the eradication of polio campaign, that is Past District Governor Ijeoma, and she always talks about so many good things clubs in District 9110 are doing. Nigeria, thank you”, PDG Mugisha added.
 
PDG Mugisha, who was earlier led by District Governor Kola Sodipo and other district leaders which includes his aide, Immediate Past District Governor Wale Ogunbadejo, on a courtesy visit to the palace of Past District Governor Oba Dr. Adedapo Adewale Tejuosho, on the first day of the conference, had expressed his gratitude at being received by a king.
 
 
“I, being received by a king today, gives me hope that whatever powers you have in kingship, will bring the people together. Am so happy you have more than one chief as District Governors. We are in Rotary to save lives”, he told everyone present at the palace.
