The Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Senator Ibikunle Amosu has stated that Rotary club’s effort of service above self has set the club apart from other non-governmental organizations and has also planted the club on the world map.
 
“Without doubt, the selfless disposition of the club is further reflected in its effort of service above self which has not only set the club aside from other non-governmental organizations, but has also ensured that the club has remained relevant globally”,- Amosu .
 
Governor Amosu made the assertion in his goodwill message which was delivered by the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Mrs Yetunde Onanuga, at the just concluded Rotary International’s 37th annual District Conference held in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.
 
The Conference- a programme of Rotary International, was organized by Rotary International, District 9110 which covers all Rotary clubs in Lagos and Ogun states. The conference which held on Wednesday, May 1 - to Saturday, May 4, 2019, brought together Rotary leaders and Rotarians from the various Rotary clubs in the district and beyond.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, to attendees, at the opening plenary of the 4 days conference, Onanuga noted that Rotary International, adopted in 1922 from the first Rotary club in Chicago, United States of America, has continued to sustain the philanthropic tradition of its founding fathers.
 
“Rotary club has continued to demonstrate its love for humanity by promoting acquaintanceship, fellowship, and goodwill among business and professional members. Without doubt, the selfless disposition of the club is further reflected in its effort of service above self which has not only set the club aside from other non-governmental organizations, but has also ensured that the club has remained relevant globally”, she said.
 
Speaking further she said, “The charitable gestures of the Rotary club are well documented worldwide. The selfless service to humanity of the Rotary club is felt in all regions across the world, Nigeria included. This service covers the whole spectrum of human and socio-economic causes such as promoting peace, fighting diseases, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education, and growing local economies.”
 
She however commended Rotary International for its key socio-economic intervention across the world in general. She also commended Rotary International, District 9110 which covers all Rotary clubs in Lagos and Ogun states, for spreading the reach of hope in Ogun state.
 
Also present at the conference were guest speakers, Past District Governors and their spouses, traditional rulers which includes His Royal Majesty, Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, as well as Rotary International President, Barry Rassin’s Representative, Past District Governor Kenneth Mugisha and his spouse, Judith.
