Rotary International, District 9110 has just commissioned an eye hospital facility in Ace Medicare Centre, Ota, Ogun state.
 
 
The commissioning ceremony held on Friday, December 16, 2022 was marked with the mission of 100 eye surgeries on carried out between Thursday, December 15 and Friday, December 16.
 
The Eye Hospital was officially commissioned by the District 9110 Governor, Omotunde Lawson, FCAI. Also present was Ogun State Commissioner for Health who was well represented by Dr. Tayo Lawal, also a Rotarian with Rotary Club of Gbagada. The Elegushi of Egushi-Ota was also present to witness the historical occasion.
 
Also present at the commissioning ceremony was District Governor Elect Ifeyinwa Ejezie, District Governor Nominee Femi Adenekan, Past District Governor Bola Oyebade, the Global Grant Contact Person- Past President Sina Ogunsola, Imaginative Presidents, the Project Initiator, Past President Dr. Basirat Giwa, and Rotarians of the district.
 
The newly commissioned Rotary District 9110 Eye Hospital which sits in the premises of Ace Medicare Centre in Ota, Ogun state was donated to the Rotary district by the Proprietor of the hospital, Dr. Wole Kukoyi and family. Dr. Wole Kukoyi is a Rotarian with Rotary Club of Ota and currently District 9110 Governor Nominee.

The eye hospital project is a global grant project involving Rotary clubs in Nigeria, United Kingdom, and the United States of America namely: Rotary Club of Yeovil, UK: Rotary Club of Cochin, UK Rotary Club of Gwinet Sunrise, USA, among others. 5 Rotary clubs in District 9110 participated in the $20,000 cash contributions to the Global Grant namely: Rotary Club Gbagada- $12, 000: Rotary Club of Agege- $3, 000: Rotary Club of Victoria Garden City- $2, 000, and Rotary Cub of Ota- $3, 000.
 
Other Clubs in District 9110 also supported the project by sponsoring free Cataract Surgeries during the period of the Pilot phase of the project to authenticate the viability of the project prior to the Global Grant Application.

Rotary Club of Eko Atlantic in addition, facilitated the donation of 100 Mattresses by Mouka Foam to the Hospital. Rotary Club of Omole Golden sponsored 50 Cataract Surgeries last under the leadership of the Immediate Past President of the club, Change Maker President Favour Madu last Rotary year. Rotary Club of Ikoyi and Rotary Club of Lagos also supported the surgical missions.
 
The pilot phase of the eye surgeries intervention started in January 2021 with 100 Surgeries: since then quite a number of surgeries have been carried out in March, April, July, October and December 2021. In 2022, 2 Missions of 50 Surgeries each were carried out, making a total of 600 Surgeries prior to the approval of the Global Grant application for funds to equip the hospital space donated, and the installation of the equipment.

The total Cataract Surgeries after the commissioning Ceremony stands at 700 Surgeries. The plan is to achieve 7000 (seven thousand Surgeries within 5 years by which time the Eye Hospital is expected to be financially free standing).
