Rotary Club of Tincan Island in District 9110, Nigeria has lent a hand of support to indigent widows in its community by empowering them with start-up capital.
 
The empowerment programme tagged, “Tincan Island Endowment Fund” is designed to empower 20 widows with a loan of N50, 000 each as start-up capital and this exercise will be carried out in two phases.
 
The club led by the president, Rotarian Chiemeka Ezenwanne, executed the first phase of the programme during the visit of the District Governor, Rotarian Dr. Wale Ogunbadejo who was accompanied on the visit by the District Secretary, Rotarian Segun Adewakun and some other district leaders to the club on Tuesday, December 5, 2017.
A sum of N50, 000 was officially presented as loans to ten widows each by the District Governor, on behalf of the club. 
 
These 10 widows are the first set of beneficiaries of the endowment fund as the second set of 10 widows will be presented theirs in the second phase of the programme.
 
DG Ogunbadejo, during the club assembly, commended the club for taking up some significant projects in the past years, under its “Show a Little Love Campaign” which is designed to raise money and materials for the less privileged youths in its community. 
 
These projects include little Ekaette Nkanga, the last daughter of a deceased past president of the club who was placed on scholarship by the club and also Mrs. Eunice Peters, a blind student who was trained by the club from secondary school level to university level.
 
The Governor however charged the club not to abandon such projects or lose contact with the beneficiaries but to always ensure to follow them up. Some other laudable projects executed by the club under its
 
“Show a Little Love Campaign” include the following:
 
-Donation of items worth millions of Naira to victims of Ikeja bomb blast
 
-Donation of food items, clothing, e.t.c to the Beth-Torney Home for Physically Handicapped Children and inmates of the medium security prisons, Kirikiri.
 
-Donation of Rotary branded exercise books and classroom desks to primary schools in Olodi Apapa/Ajegunle and Tincan Island territories.
 
-Mechanic training sponsorship for two ladies
 
-Donation of malaria drugs to the health centre in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area for pregnant women and children.
