The Rotary Club of Satellite Town in District 9110, has provided a three-day medical care for people residing in Ibeshe community in Ori-ade Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
 
The three-day medical care peogramme is part of the ongoing “Rotary Family Health Days”, flagged of by a Rotary Action group, Rotarians for Family Health and AIDS Prevention (RFHA) which commenced on Thursday, September 27, 2017 and ended Saturday, September 30, 2017.
 
The club president, Rotarian Obikah Chito, the Assistant Governor to the club, and some other members of the club, led the District Governor, Rotarian Dr. Wale Ogunbadejo to Ibeshe community, during his official visit to the club on Saturday, September 30, 2017 to witness the final day of the club’s “Rotary Family Health Days” exercise.
 
 
DG Ogunbadejo, who was accompanied on the visit by the District Secretary, Rotarian Segun Adewakun and some other district leaders, paid a courtesy visit to Ovori of Ibeshe Kingdom, Oba Garusu Alani Rasak, upon his arrival at the community.
 
The DG was led to the venue for the medical exercise where various medical screenings were being carried out.  Some of the screenings include HIV screening, malaria screening, pregnancy test, checking of blood pressure, among others.
 
Drugs such as Vitamin C, Multivitamins, Paracetamol, anti-malaria and malaria drugs, and also drugs for de-worming were administered to those who are required to take them. Sanitary pads, family planning aids and mosquito nets were also given out to the people.
 
 

 

The Governor, while addressing the people, encouraged the parents present to use the mosquito nets for their children also. “The nets are well-treated against mosquitoes. They prevent mosquitoes from biting your children, and that in turn, prevents them from malaria. You will also be tested for malaria and those suffering from malaria will be given malaria drugs.
 
“We only do this once in a year. So, don’t always wait for that once in a year when we come before you go for medical check-up. Ensure you go for medical check-ups regularly. Also, observe your children and when you discover any irregularity in them, consult a professional health personal. Avoid suggestions given to you by unprofessional”, DG Ogunbadejo advised them.

The Governor, upon his arrival at the club meeting venue, commended the club for the choice of venue, which he describes as “very conducive”. He explained that a club’s meeting venue is a very crucial factor that encourages and/or discourages people from attending club meetings.
 
He also commended the club for including the club’s weekly activities for the 2017/2018 Rotary year in its workbook. He however, advised them to make it available to all members of the club. The Governor also advised the club to review its history and make corrections where necessary, in order to prevent passing across wrong impression to younger generations of the club.
 
Noting that the major problem with the club is membership, the DG encouraged the club to try as much as possible to make its club meetings fun and interesting so as to attract new members and also retain its existing members.
 
The Governor was pleased to award two scholarships to two senior secondary school students on behalf of the club. He also inducted one new member into the Rotary Club of Satellite Town.
