Rotary Club of Ojodu, on Sunday, July 26 distributed some COVID-19 relief items to indigent members of Ojodu-Berger community and its environs.
Each of the beneficiaries received food items which include noodles, vegetable oil, raw rice, spaghetti, sachet tomatoes, among others from the club.
The District Governor, Bola Oyebade who was on his official visit to the club on the said day, also joined members of the club in the distribution exercise while commending their effort in reaching out to the less privileged ones in their community during this pandemic.
The club also leveraged on the visit of the District Governor to officially commission a botanical garden which is currently being established by the club in Ojodu Junior Grammar School in Ojodu, Lagos.
Speaking on the idea of the botanical garden in the school, the Club President, Ezenwa Opara revealed that the establishment of a botanical garden in the school is part of the club's effort in promoting a healthy ecosystem. He noted that rather than just planting trees in corners of the school, the club, in collaboration with the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) decided to design an area in the school where different species of flowers will be planted by the club.
He explained that while the flower will do its part in preserving the environment degradation in the school, it will also serve as a learning aid for the students as it will used for teaching purposes.
Also present at the botanical garden commissioning was the Chairman of the District's Tree Planting and Planet Earth Committee, Jellily Efedi who is also a member of the club, the School Vice Principal Admin, Mrs Onwuzulike Monica, as well as some other members of the club.
