The Rotary Club of Gowon Estate, District 9110 has donated wheelchairs to the physically challenged in its community, during the visit of the District Governor, Rotarian Dr. Wale Ogunbadejo to the club on Saturday, October 21, 2017.

The Governor, who was accompanied on the visit by members of his entourage which includes the District Secretary, Rotarian Segun Adewakun and some other district leaders, was received by the club president Rotarian George Eromosele, the Immediate Past District Governor (IPDG), Rotarian Patrick Ikheloa, and some other leaders and members of the club.

At the donation venue which also serves as the club’s meeting venue, DG Ogunbadejo congratulated the benefactor and also commended members of the club for the donation project which he described as a very significant one, while encouraging them not to relent in their service to humanity.

The benefactor, Mrs. Funmilayo Okesola who was present with her husband, Mr. Gabriel Okesola, narrated how she met the lady Rotarian, a member of the Rotary Club of Gowon Estate, who made it possible for her to receive one of the wheelchairs being donated by the club.  “During my visits to my aunt’s place, I met this lady Rotarian who had compassion on me. She linked me with the club and the club considered my condition and decided to give me one of the wheelchairs”, she said.

“Thank you all. God will bless you all and enrich your pockets”, Mrs Okesola heartily prayed for the club members for such a huge favour granted to her by the club. Her husband who had his smiles on all through the donation exercise was equally overwhelmed by the club’s gesture towards his wife. The club however noted that it is currently on the lookout for another benefactor who will receive the remaining wheelchair.

DG Ogunbadejo also joined the club in its tree planting exercise along 2nd Avenue Road in Gowon Estate.

On membership growth, the DG advised the club to always care for one another, check up on one another and encourage one another to attend meeting. A member can even offer to give another member a ride to the meeting venue sometimes. This, according to the DG, will make members to feel a sense of love and belonging, therefore, retaining them in the club. He however, urged the club members to bring in new members, especially younger ones so as to prevent the club from going into extinction.

DG Ogunbadejo encouraged the club strive to produce another district governor, following IPDG Patrick Ikheloa. Three new members were inducted into the club by the DG.
