Rotary Club of Lagos Palm Grove Estate, District 9110 has installed Rotarian Jayeshankar Nalode as its 12th president.
The installation ceremony which was held on Sunday, August 4, 2019, was witnessed by the District Governor, Dr. Jide Akeredolu who officially decorated the new president with the collarrette. President Nalode who will lead the club until June 30th, 2020, also presented his new board members.
DG Akeredolu who was on his official visit to the club alongside his wife, Tokunbo and other members of his entourage, also decorated new Paul Harris Fellows in the club. Past District Governor Kamoru Omotosho with his Spouse, Susan and Past District Governor Deinde Shoga also joined him to decorate the new Paul Harris Fellows.
DG A keredolu, while addressing members of the club spoke about his free cervical cancer vaccination project, stating that the district aims at vaccinating 10, 000 girls against cervical cancer this Rotary year. "Together, we can achieve that goal", he said.
The cervical cancer vaccination project is an initiative of the District Governor. DG Jide Akeredolu revealed that as a Medical Doctor, he has seen a lot of women die of cervical cancer and that it hurts to know that the disease can be prevented by vaccination.
He is however leveraging his office as District Governor to help minimize the spread of this disease in Lagos and Ogun states which the district covers. Each doze of the vaccine costs N11, 000 and each girl is required to take 2 dozes; therefore vaccinating one girl costs N22, 000.
The club members however pledged to support the district cervical cancer project by financing the immunization of over 100 girls.
12 new members were also inducted into the club and decorated by the District Governor, Past District Governors, the club president, and some other leaders of the club.
The club also launched its “Mission for Vision 2020”- an annual free eye cataract surgery initiative of the club.
