Rotarians for Family Health and AIDS Prevention (RFHA), a Rotary Action Group of Rotary District 9110, on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, flagged off the “Rotary Family Heath Days.”

The “Rotary Family Health Days”, which is dedicated to providing medical check-up for the masses, kicks off on Thursday, September 28, 2017 and is scheduled to last till Saturday, September 30, 2017.

Having noticed that many people do not go for medical check-up, RFHA decided to make the process easier by bringing healthcare and checkups closer to the people and of course, making it free of charge, while going into partnership with the government and private organisations.

The medical check-up which covers check-up for HIV, Malaria, Sugar level, and hepatitis, will be carried out by Rotary Clubs across District 9110 covering Lagos and Ogun States, and other Rotary Districts in Nigeria.

Across the world, the Rotarians for Family Health and AIDS Prevention essentially ensures that each member of the community is provided medical health care.

In addition to providing medical check-up, the group also provides medical items such as mosquito nets, among other needed items to members of the community.

RFHA started originally with focus on HIV/AIDS then the group expanded its focus to include other areas.

RFHA is not limited to the Rotary District 9110, which covers Lagos state and Ogun state alone, it is runs all over Nigeria and in many other parts of Africa and the world at large.

Action groups are groups of Rotarians who have specific areas of focus. These Rotarians come together across barriers and work together to better the cause of humanity.

The activities of the Rotary Action groups should fall under any of the six areas of focus in Rotary. The six areas of focus include the following:

  • -Peace and Conflict Prevention
  • -Disease Prevention and Treatment
  • -Water and Sanitation
  • -Maternal and Child Health
  • -Basic Education and Literacy
  • -Economic and Community Development

The District Governor, Rotarian Dr. Wale Ogunbadejo, who is also a medical doctor, and a life member of RFHA, while announcing the programme, stated, “ This group started as fighting AIDS, then, we realised that just fighting AIDS will not do. So, we expanded. More than hundreds of people have been helped through this exercise. What kills most of us in Africa is that by the time we get to the hospital, it’s already too late.

“So these days are dedicated to help people detect what may be silently and gradually killing them, so they can go for treatment immediately. Very soon, at the district level, there will be thorough breast screening for those who have reached reproductive age”, according to the District Governor.
