In a bid to fulfill one of Rotary International’s six areas of focus on Child and Maternal Health, Rotary Club of Lagos has donated medical equipment to Onikan Maternity Centre in Onikan, Lagos State.
In a bid to fulfill one of Rotary International’s six areas of focus on Child and Maternal Health, Rotary Club of Lagos has donated medical equipment to Onikan Maternity Centre in Onikan, Lagos State.
 
The club president, Rotarian Ehi Braimah and other members of the club led the District Governor, Rotarian Kola Sodipo and members of his entourage to the Health Centre on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, to hand over the equipment to the Centre.
 
The staff and management team of the Health Centre were in attendance to welcome and receive the equipment from RC Lagos.
President Braimah, while delivering his address during the donation exercise expressed his excitement on behalf of the Club, to have been able to support the Health Centre and impact on the lives of the patients.
 
During the event, DG Sodipo said that “for us in Rotary, we look at areas we can partner with the government to better the lives of people in our communities because we know that the government cannot do it alone. We charge you to handle this equipment with care so that when we come back here and see that they are well-maintained. We will be inspired to do more.”
 
Dr. Babatunde Ademuyiwa, the Deputy Medical Director who was also present during the donation exercise, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the management team to the club for its laudable impact on the well-being of the patients through the medical equipment donated to the centre, adding that the equipment will be well-maintained.
“I am highly overwhelmed that a group of people is donating to the government. We look forward to using it to the glory of God and to the benefit of humanity. We will try our best to make sure that they are carefully used and well maintained”, Dr. Ademuyiwa said.
 
Another medical officer at the Health Centre who also expressed his appreciation to the club, noted that the equipment donated by the club will go a long way to save the lives of a lot of people.
 
The equipment donated by the club to the Health Centre include extended collapsible stretcher, suction apparatus, adult weighing scale, baby weighing scale, among others.  
 
After the donation exercise at the Health Centre, the club led DG Sodipo to the club meeting venue where Mr. Kehinde Salami, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Ideas House, on behalf of himself and his wife, donated 500 insecticide-treated nets to the club to support the club’s forthcoming project targeted at distributing 1000 insecticide-treated nets to members of its community.
According to Mr Salami, the 500 pieces of insecticide-treated nets which himself and his wife decided to donate to the club is valued at N2000 each, making a total sum of N1 million.
The club reciprocated Mr. Salami’s kind gesture by honouring him with an appreciation award which was presented to him by the DG.
