Oregun Primary Health Centre in Lagos state has become the sixth club to benefit from Rotary club’s series of partnership projects dedicated towards improving the health care sector in Lagos and Ogun states.
 
 
“What we have found out over the years is that when patients are rushed to the primary health centres, most of this health centres don’t have the necessary equipment needed to attend to them so people have to go long distances to secondary health institutions to get the required treatment. That is why we have marked out about 15 primary health centres that we will be intervening on this Rotary year”, the District Governor stated.
 
Rotary, an organization of 1.2million professional and business men and women who unite to create lasting change in our communities is touching lives daily through its various Rotary clubs and districts spread across the world.
 
Rotary International, District 9110 which supervises all the Rotary clubs in Lagos and Ogun states in Nigeria has dedicated this Rotary year which runs from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019 towards upgrading and improving health services in primary health centres in the states and this will be carried out through partnership with various clubs in the district.
 
The district, in partnership with one of its clubs- Rotary Club of Oregun which is currently led by the president, Seyi Fapohunda, donated some medical items to the centre. Items donated to the centre by the club include a wheel chair, chairs, plastic surgeon apron, examination bed, sterilizer, drugs, among other items.
 
Speaking during the donation ceremony on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, the District Governor, Kola Sodipo said, “What we have found out over the years is that when patients are rushed to the primary health centres, most of this health centres don’t have the necessary equipment needed to attend to them so people have to go long distances to secondary health institutions to get the required treatment.

The Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Tawak who was present at the commissioning ceremony, appreciated the club on behalf of the people of Oregun community, saying that the equipment, instrument and drugs donated to the centre will save a lot of lives.
 
Supervisor for Health, Honourable Bolaji Monsuru who was also present at the commissioning ceremony stated that the club’s donation doesn’t come as a surprise to him. “Am not surprised that Rotary club is doing this because over the years, this is what they have been doing. I thank you for extending this gesture to us”, Honourable Monsuru said.
