FEBRUARY IS PEACE AND CONFLICT PREVENTION/RESOLUTION MONTH

PROMOTING PEACE

It has been reported that Conflict and violence displaced more than 68 million people in the past year, and half of those are children.

As Rotarians, we refuse to accept conflict as a way of life. Our projects provide training that fosters understanding and provides communities with the skills to resolve conflicts.

Rotarians make help happen through Service Projects, Peace Fellowships, and Scholarships where members take action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, inequality, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.

We also train adults and young leaders to prevent and mediate conflict. We aid refugees who have fled dangerous areas.

Rotarians also address the underlying structural causes of conflict by relieving millions of people suffering from poverty, inequality, ethnic tensions, lack of access to education and unequal distribution of resources.

All these among others, help us in promoting peace and good neighbourliness in our various communities and in our world.

This month of February also marks the birth of our organisation, Rotary International.

Specifically, Rotary International will be 114 years old on February 23, 2019.
Our District will be marking the day with a symposium titled “The Impact of Cross Borden Violence on World Peace”, a distinguished Nigerian & Diplomat will be the Lead Speaker.

Talking about our activities and projects for this Rotary year, it is time to start concluding the various humanitarian projects embarked upon, hand over to beneficiaries and turn in our reports.
It is also time to start preparing our incoming District and Club Leaders for the next Rotary year.

Every effort geared towards this is enabling our Clubs and our District to become stronger and better strengthened for an improved humanitarian service delivery in our communities.

Ours is a service organisation and in providing these humanitarian services, we are committed to leaving a ‘Lasting Impact’ with these projects and encourage peaceful co-existence within our communities and limit conflicts amongst the peoples of the world.

Serving Humanity is our commitment. Let us all continue to do this and many more with our live touching projects and BE THE INSPIRATION to our communities.
