DECEMBER – ROTARY’S MONTH OF DISEASE PREVENTION & TREATMENT

Today marks the beginning of the last month of the calendar year, December. It is the month that ushers in the Yuletide season and in Rotary, designated for Disease Prevention and treatment. It is also the month to show love and care to those around us and make them happy and make them know that life is worth living. We should also not lose sight of the need to take good care of our health, no overeating or over drinking and run away from those things that will impair your health. Take your medications and stay healthy to enable you support the person beside you.

THE IMAGINE ROTARY JOURNEY THUS FAR

ROTARY FOUNDATION GIVING-A RECORD BREAKING HISTORY.

I wish to start on an appreciation note to all our charitable Rotarians for your generous gifts to The Rotary Foundation especially in the first five months of the Rotary year especially in PolioPlus and Annual Programs Fund. Our gifts will transform the world and change lives, both at home and around the world.  More gratitude goes to those who used the opportunity of the ‘GIVING TUESDAY’ to make additional donations.

The giving continues and the blessing for us multiplies.

Through the generous donations of all, our District has been able to raise a sum of $506,000 in 5 months which is the highest so far in zone 22. This is indeed phenomenal. $101,000 of this is donation to Polioplus, simply amazing. The icing on the cake is the record of two (2) AKS members in the very first month of the Rotary year.

Foundation giving is all the year round, let’s continue to donate.

I am happy to report that my visit to clubs have assisted many clubs to elevate their status to that of an all TRF donor club. I made sure that this was achieved with $10 paid for each non-donor.

Club’s rotary foundation fund raising dinner

Many clubs held different Rotary Foundation fund raising events and some still being planned. The District appreciates this laudable idea, but wishes to remind clubs that such funds raised are expected to be put in Rotary Foundation account and not into the club’s operational or

project accounts. The donors should be advised to pay directly to The Rotary Foundation account.

MEMBERSHIP

• Membership Gain

As of 29th November 2022, our membership stood at 5,046, with a net gain of 549. Membership has continued to increase progressively, we have met and surpassed one of the two requirements given by Rotary International for final approval of districting into 9111 and 9112 – membership strength of 5000 by 30th June 2023. Though impressive but not comfortable because it is inevitable that clubs will lose some members to termination due to non-payment of dues, but always remember my ‘ABD’ rule (Add Before Deletion). Some clubs that have admitted new members are yet to report them. Do report your new members within 48 hours of inducting them.

·      Inclusive membership attraction

In line with Rotary’s Policy on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, (DEI) and the Governor’s call to clubs to attract members from the under-represented group of people who have physical, visual, hearing impairment etc, I had the privilege recently of virtually inducting Rotarian                                         (Barr.) Larry Ofolue, Director, Federal

• Membership Development

The fourth edition of the novel breakfast virtual Strategic Training for Action in Rotary (STAR) held on Saturday, 27th November between 8.00 and 9.30am as usual. This avenue provides ample opportunity for Rotarians to advance their Rotary knowledge. The training was on ‘The Rotary Foundation’, the area of focus for the month.

GOVERNOR’S VISIT TO CLUBS

Seventy-two (72) Rotary clubs had been visited so far. The Governor’s visit so far has been very revealing, and it has now become an avenue to provide that much-needed rotary education

to our Rotarians and cause the clubs to improve theiradministration and work on their weaknesses.  I wish to reiterate that the visit of the Governor does not indicate that there must be commissioning of project(s) on that day.

ZONAL MULTI-CLUB TRAINING SEMINARS 2022

Another major mission of the Rotary year has been accomplished in record time with the conclusion on Wednesday of the 5th and last of the batches of Zonal Multi-Club Training.

Seminars for the Rotary year for zones 11 & 12 (Abeokuta & Ijebu axis) held at the new and very conducive Diamond Dumplin, Abeokuta.

The trainings have been very innovative which is characteristic of this rotary year. All five editions were well- attended. My immense gratitude goes to the achiever coordinator, PAG ‘Segun Adewakun for the Amazing performance. All our sponsors are very much appreciated, how could we have had such a good outing without your support?

·      District Governor’s Happy Hour

The November edition of ‘District Governor’s Happy Hour’ with new Rotarians held on Friday, 25th November 2022. The new Rotarians had the opportunity of interaction with the Governor, knowledge sharing, and were taken on a tour of the Rotary Centre.

• Incorporation of Rotary District 9110 with Corporate Affairs Commission

It is good news that our District finally got incorporated with Corporate Affairs Commission on 21st November 2022. Thecertificate of incorporation covers clubs in both Lagos and Ogun States. Our sincere appreciation goes to PAG LanreAdedoyin who facilitated the process and personally paid all the fees. Any club that requires it for account opening should apply in writing for copy.
