Pacesetter Governor of Rotary International District 9110, Nigeria, Dr Wale Ogunbadejo has told members of Rotary Club of Shomolu that Rotary exists to help the community and “when we stop doing projects, then we stop being Rotarians.”
 
The DG said this during his official visit to the club on Thursday, December 14, 2017. The Governor, who was accompanied on the visit by the District Secretary, Rotarian Segun Adewakun and some other district leaders were received by the club president, Rotarian Ogunbiyi Ibironke Elizabeth and other club members.
 
DG Ogunbadejo, during the club assembly, clearly stated the importance of carrying out projects in Rotary. 
 
According to him, “we are Rotarians because we want to help the community so when we stop doing projects, then we stop being Rotarians.

“Rotary exists to make a difference in the lives of people. That is what we do as Rotarians”, he said, while stressing the importance of project execution. “We want more members. We want more clubs to do more projects.”
 
 
The DG also stated the importance of a well-detailed and updated club history as that is the only way the efforts of the club members will be appreciated.
According to DG Ogunbadejo, “Whoever that sat on this seat must have sacrificed his/her time, money, talent, e.t.c. We don’t get paid salaries. The only way we can reward ourselves is by appreciating our efforts.”
 
The club president, while responding to the Governor’s statement, revealed that the club plans to partner with a non-governmental organisations to provide skill acquisition and empowerment training for 50 members of Shomolu community for a start. 
 
Some of the 50 students with outstanding performances will then be assisted with a no-interest Federal Government loan to start up their own businesses. The club also plans to distribute books to schools all in this Rotary year.
 
Speaking on how to raise funds towards polio eradication, the DG advised that fund raising should not be limited to Rotarians purses alone. “We should be galvanizers of funds”, he said, while explaining that the club members can communicate with their friends and families and other non-Rotarians to support to fight against polio through their donations.
 
DG Ogunbadejo also shared fellowship with members of the club, during which he thanked the club members for their persistence. 
 
He also commended the club for its laudable projects line up for this Rotary year, despite being few in number.
