Three new members including Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, former and first civilian Governor of Lagos State were inducted by the District Governor, Rotary International, District 9110, Nigeria, Rotarian Dr. Wale Ogunbadejo during his official visit to the club on Friday 22, September, 2017.
 
It was an activity-filled day for leaders and members of Rotary Club of Ilupeju Central as the club inducted three new members into the Rotary family.
 
The three new members which include Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, past and first civilian governor of Lagos state and Mrs. Agatha Amata, Founder of Inside-Out Media Limited.
 
The Governor, accompanied by the District Secretary, Rotarian Segun Adewakun and several other District leaders were received by the President of the club, Rotarian Olawale Oriowo, past presidents of the club, some of the board members and other members of the Rotary Club of Ilupeju Central. 
 
DG Ogunbadejo, while inducting Alhaji Jakande in his Lagos home, got very emotional. Everyone present in the sitting room where the induction was taking place tried to get a grip of their emotions as they all got engulfed in the mood of the moment.
 
In an emotion-laden tone, the District Governor went down memory lane describing Alhaji Jakande as one of the pioneers of housing and educational development in Lagos State.
 
“Before the coming of Baba Jakande, Lagos state was poor but when Baba came in, he built so many public schools within one year of his tenure. Sir, we are not politicians. We are your children. We know who you are and we have come to appreciate you. Rotary consists of people who help our community and you have done your part in helping our people. So, we have come to induct you as a honorary member of this amiable club”, the DG said.
 
Alhaji Jakande, who was touched by the DG’s speech, appreciated and prayed for the club. “I am overwhelmed by what you have done. I thank God for everything. I thank you for creating time to come here to give me this honour. I pray that you grow more and more in every aspect of your lives. All the plans and projects that you have in mind, I pray that you will make a success of them all”, the former Lagos State Governor told the Rotary District Governor.

The DG, his entourage, as well as leaders and members of Rotary Club of Ilupeju Central, proceeded to Mrs. Amata’s office complex where she was also inducted by the Governor as a honorary member of the club.
 
It was an excited Mrs Amata that said that “my father used to be a very strong Rotarian. I grew up knowing the 4-way test. Although he died when I was in form 2, we used to go to a lot of Rotary activities. My father will be very proud wherever he is now.”
 
Next, was a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Honourable Taofeek Ajala, where a Nurse was also inducted by the DG as a honorary member of the club.
Honourable Ajala, who is also a honorary member of the club, thanked the club for its effort so far which complements the effort of the government. “I appreciate your support towards enhancing the standard of living of our people to the greater good of our community.”
 
According to him, “the Government as an institution cannot do it all alone. We are also ready to partner with you. I want you to rest assured that we always support whatever has to do with quality service delivery for the good of our community which is what Rotary stands for.”
 
The DG and other members of the group thereafter, proceeded to the venue for the club’s board meeting and fellowship. At the board meeting, the DG areas where the club is lagging behind and also commended them on areas where they have performed well.
 
He also urged members of Rotary Club of Ilupeju Central  to co-operate with the President of the club who is still very young and also collaborate by sharing their knowledge and experience towards the growth of the club.
