The prospective Rotarians had indicated their interest to join a Rotary club on Rotary International’s website www.rotary.org as well as the district’s website www.rotary9110.org. They were referred to the district which then invited them for a chat at the District Rotary Centre in Ikeja GRA area of Lagos state.

Also present at the meeting were the District Secretary, Rotarian Segun Adewakun, Past Assistant Governors, some district leaders, some club leaders, as well as Rotarians.

DG Ogunbadejo explained what it takes to be a Rotarian in his address to the attendees when he said that, “you must be a man with a reliable source of livelihood to be one of us. We exist as Rotarians, only to serve. We exist to make a positive impact in the lives of others.”

According to him, as Rotarinas, “we also network and help each other, but we are in Rotary basically, to serve others. The government cannot do it all, so we need more people to close the gap.”

DGE Sodipo, while addressing the guests also adds that, “as Rotarians, in our quest to make the world a better place to live in, we help fight social causes. One of such is polio. Rotarians all over the world are working together to ensure that no child below the age of 5 is crippled by this polio virus.

“Whether you are a friend of Rotary or a member, your donation and advocacy in the support of eradicating polio will go a long way”, DGE Sodipo added.

Omoh Paul, one of the prospective Rotarians, in his remark, stated that there are three categories of people. “The first category is those who give their money, the second category is those who give their talent and the third category is those who give their time. I will give my money, talent and time”, he assured.

Another prospective Rotarian, Adesanwo Oluwagbemiga said although he was discouraged by a lot of people not to attend the meeting but on getting to the meeting and having been a part of it, “I believe am on the right path.”
