Not less than 300 youths in Lagos and Ogun state have benefitted from the just concluded 7 days Rotary Youths Leadership Academy (RYLA) held between August 21 (arrival) and August 28, 2022.
The training sponsored by Rotary International (RI), District 9110, one of the Rotary districts under the umbrella of Rotary International, an organization of people who come together to create lasting change in their communities.
The beneficiaries were sponsored by the various clubs in the district, numbering over 100. The training academy is an annual programme of Rotary International, organized by the various districts and District 9110 is not left out as the beneficiaries which cut across secondary and higher institution students, as well as graduates were sponsored to the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (Sea School) in Apapa area of Lagos state were the participants were trained to be good future leaders.
RYLA programme, formerly known as Rotary Youths Leadership Awards was renamed Rotary Youths Leadership Academy by RI this 2022-2023 Rotary year when District 9110 coincidently has the first female District Governor, Rotarian Omotunde Lawson, FCAI, just like RI has the first female President.
The highly impactful training featured vocational skills acquisition, competitions, physical fitness, as well as motivational and career talks. Seasoned speakers took turns to speak and interact with the participants on topics ranging from self-esteem to wellness to academics to public speaking, among others.
Some of the Rotary clubs in the district also visited the Sea School at different times to share fellowship with the participants.
At the end of the training, some of the participants left with prizes for their outstanding performances in the various aspects of the training.
