Rotary Club of Gbagada Rotary Club of Gbagada South, Rotary Club of Ikorodu Metropolitan, Rotary Club of Ikoyi all in District 9110, Nigeria Rotary Club of Cotonou Palmiar in District 9102, and Rotary Club of Kensington & Chelsea in District 1130, United Kingdom have partnered with Grace and Mercy Households Improvement Initiative to empower low-income earners in Igbogbo Community, Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria.
 
 
The micro credit scheme which started five years ago has grown over the years to over N100, 000, 000 in total with over 2000 beneficiaries while the fund from Rotary has grown to over N10, 000, 000.
 
Every year, the Rotary clubs provide funds while the Grace and Mercy Households Improvement Initiative provide complement with more funds so as expand the credit and cater for more beneficiaries. This year, 200 women in the community were issued a total micro credit of N10, 045, 000 Rotary fund.
 
The District 9110 Governor, Omotunde Lawson, FCAI while addressing the beneficiaries during the micro credit presentation ceremony held on Thursday, January 19, 2023, congratulated the women saying, “Back then, women were not given the chance to show the stuff they were made of, but we thank God the story has changed.
 
 
“People now realize that if you train a woman, you train an entire community because of the capacity they are made of”, she said.
The Programme Manager of Grace and Mercy Households Improvement Initiative, Mrs Olaniyi-Ojo Oluwakemi revealed that the organization is “focused on empowering women because when a woman is established, her home is also established.”
 
The President, Rotary Club of Gbagada, Alozie Nsirimobi thanked the Initiative for being a reliable partner in the project over the years and for effectively managing the beneficiaries while assuring them of further collaborations as they continue to impact lives.
 
The Rotary Vocational Training Centre, Igbogbo in Ikorodu is a major economic empowerment project of Rotary International, District 9110 in 2017-2018 Rotary year under the leadership of the then District Governor, Dr. Adewale Ogunbadejo. The project which happens to be an initiative of the then DG has and continues to touch many lives in the community, having produced quite a number of graduates that are excelling in their various skills.
