Rotarian Dr. Wale Ogunbadejo, the District Governor of Rotary International, District 9110, Nigeria, has told Rotarians to develop a reading culture so as to acquire more knowledge as “knowledge is key in Rotary.”

The District Governor made this statement in his opening remark at the multi-club zonal meeting, held at the District Centre on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. The meeting which brought together Rotarians from Rotary Clubs in District 9110, Zones 4 and 5, was focused on training the Rotarians on various topics related to Rotary.

While addressing Rotarians at the training, the District Governor noted that in the past, “Rotarians attend meetings like this just to have fun, but when we realised that Rotarians need knowledge, we decided to change the format of this meeting to make it more value-adding.”

According to DG Ogunbadejo, “Going round the clubs, I have noticed the dearth of knowledge. Even in the scripture, we are told that ‘my people perish for lack of knowledge’ and truly, Rotarians can drown without knowledge. Knowledge is key in Rotary. For our clubs to be effective, we need knowledge.”

He also advised attendees at the training that, “if you don’t have knowledge on a particular area in Rotary, how will you be able to tell people about it?”

DG encouraged members of Rotary clubs to always read Rotary-related materials that are available either on the Rotary website or offline.

They also need to always take note and download materials from trainings like this so they can transmit the knowledge to other members of the club that couldn’t attend the training, the District Governor said.

Some other speakers at the training includes Rotarian Adeniji Raji, Past District Governor, who spoke on District Resource Network; Rotarian Dehinde Shoga, Past District Governor, and Rotarian Samuel Ayetutu, Assistant Rotary Public Image Co-ordinator (Zone 20A Africa English Speaking).

Other district leaders at the training include Rotarian Patrick Ikheloa, the Immediate Past District Governor, Rotarian Kola Sodipo, District Governor Elect, among others.
