The month of November is the month of our FOUNDATION, THE ROTARY FOUNDATION, THE HEART BEAT OF ROTARY.

When Arch C. Klumph proposed the foundation of an endowment for ‘Doing Good in the World’ in 1917 no one could have imagined how far-reaching this dream would be fulfilled and also its impact all over the world.

This is the Heartbeat of Rotary, our Philanthropic arm that gave us the confidence to confront the dreaded Poliomyehtis disease and with the collaboration of our Partners in the GPEI and the governments of the world, we are 99.9% through with the job.

The end-game in the war against Polio is estimated to cost about $1.5billion over the next three years but we still have a shortfall of $300million despite all pledges by Rotary, our partners, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and governments of the world.

During the past 100 years, the FUND has spent $3billion on life sustainable projects with the POLIO war taking about $1.7billion of the sum.

MISSION OF THE ROTARY FOUNDATION
To enable Rotarians advance World Understanding, Goodwill and Peace through the improvement of health, the support of education and the alleviation of poverty.

OUR AREAS OF FOCUS
Distilling from the activities of thousands of Clubs and millions of Rotarians as volunteers over the past 100 years we have six areas of focus for our humanitarian, educational and cultural projects –

  • Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution
  • Disease Prevention and Treatment
  • Water and Sanitation
  • Maternal and Child Health
  • Basic Education and Literacy
  • Economic and Community Development
  •
35,000 Clubs all over the world addressing the needs of their communities and communities beyond their borders, carrying out projects in these Areas of Focus all year round.

Our Foundation therefore transforms your gifts into service projects that change the lives of people both close to home and around the world.

HOW DO WE RAISE THE FUNDS?
From Rotarians, Friends, Corporate Organizations, Governments and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO). One NGO that has particularly been of great assistance, especially in the fight against POLIO is The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. For every $1.0 Rotary contributes, The Gates Foundation doubles it.

WHY SHOULD YOU DONATE?
Your donation makes a difference to those who need our help most. More than 90% of donations go directly to supporting our service projects around the world. The Rotary Foundation has been consistently rated as the most prudent and charity-rating organisation.

HOW DO WE USE YOUR DONATION?
Over 35,000 Rotary Clubs in more than 200 countries carry out sustainable service projects that support our six areas of focus. With donations like yours, we have combated 99.9% of all Polio cases. Your donation can train Peace Scholars, supports clean water and strengthen local economies.

A donation of $0.60 can protect a child from Polio.

TYPES OF DONATION
Annual Programs Fund
Endowment Fund
PolioPlus Fund

Your donations can be in these three categories.

While the first category is spent wholly within three years on service projects all over the world.

The second category is endowment ‘in perpetuity’ as only the interests will be spent. They therefore stand as our bulwarks against vagaries of time and as modes of sustaining the Fund.

The PolioPlus fund is self explanatory. This is strictly for fighting the Polio war globally.

CONCLUSION
The end-game in the war against Polio is estimated to cost about $1.5billion over the next three years but we still have a shortfall of $300million despite all pledges by Rotary, our partners, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and governments of the world.

We therefore need your support. Our country is one of the three countries left with Polio endemicity and we must show our commitment to this war. A case of Polio anywhere is a risk to the whole world.

Our Foundation needs your support and we ask for your generous donation to it.

Should you be interested, please call me now on +2348023140773 and we shall facilitate the payment to the Foundation.

For my fellow Rotarians our commitment to the Foundation must be constant, Every Rotary, Every Year (EREY) should be the least donation by any Rotarian while our mega goal of $1m donation to the Foundation this year is a task we must achieve together.

I wish all of us a great FOUNDATION Month as we organize seminars, fund-raisers and Awareness Campaign to stimulate interest in the Foundation and encourage our generous donors.

Yours in Service to Humanity,
Wale Ogunbadejo
