New Set of Youth Exchange Candidates Depart

DG & Six Youtn Exchangers
Each year, for over sixty (60) years, Rotary International has given thousands of students and young people the opportunity to travel to other countries around the world to spend weeks, months or a year to experience the cultures and accomplishments of people in those countries.

Six Rotary Youth Exchange Candidates are currently in the process of departing to their respective host locations.

District 9110 was certified by Rotary International for one-way (Outbound only)exchange currently. While still working on getting certification for Inbound exchange, the our District has, for the past three years, sent young people to United States and Brazil for the one year exchange program.  A total of eleven students have taken part in the program, living with families in these countries and studying in high schools.

The students usually live with three or four host families and become part of the family and their communities. These Rotary accredited families who are volunteers welcome and care for them, supervise and introduce them to their cultures and lifestyles. Students also learn another language in the host country, experience different foods, study different subjects and enjoy a new way of living. Students learn a great deal about themselves and gain confidence and self-sufficiency. The ambassadorial nature of the exchange promotes world understanding and peace.
Apart from attending school in the local community, students also participate in Rotary and community activities, make new friends and experience adventures.  Exchanges are for young people of ages 15 to 19 who:
  •         Have demonstrated leadership in their school and community
  •         Are flexible and willing to try new thingsJohn Jegede & mates
  •          Are open to cultural differences
  •          Can serve as an ambassador for their own country
