The pace setter District Governor, Rotary International, District 9110, Nigeria, Rotarian Dr. Wale Ogunbadejo joined the Rotary Club of Festac Metropolitan in its tree planting exercise, during his official visit to the club on Tuesday, October 17, 2017.

DG Ogunbadejo, accompanied by the District Secretary, Rotarian Segun Adewakun and some other district leaders, upon his arrival, was received and led to the tree planting site along 1st Avenue by 1st Gate, Festac Town in Lagos, by Rotarian Osita Kenneth Agbata, the club president and some other leaders and members of the club.

Also present at the tree planting site was Engineer Haruna Lawal, the Technical Assistant to the Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State. From the tree planting site, the group proceeded to the club meeting venue for the club assembly during which DG Ogunbadejo encouraged the club to always upload any activity carried out by the club with respect to polio on the endpolio website.

He revealed that last year, a lot of clubs in other Rotary club districts in Nigeria had their activities on the endpolio website but only ten of the club in District 9110 had theirs on the website which is not good at all because various clubs in District 9110 are actively involved in the fight against polio but their activities are not being recognized because they don't upload them on the endpolio site.

The DG also made it clear to the club board members that the club’s bylaw must contain what is practiced by the club. He further explained that every activity carried out during club meetings should be stated in the bylaw, including the recitation of the 4-way test, etc. He also charged the club to make its club experience educating, interesting and value-adding for members.

According to the DG, planned and organized club meetings increase the attendance and financial contributions. He however commended the club for its rapid increase in number of members by twice the previous number, while explaining to them that this means the club has a lot of work to do, assimilating the new members into the system, indoctrinating them, and also retaining them.

“For any club to say ‘we are effective’, you must contribute to Rotary foundation. Polio plus is also key in Rotary, so we must also contribute to polio plus”, the DG emphatically told the members of the club.

Nine new members of the club, who were recently inducted, were handed their membership packs by the Governor on behalf of the club. Earlier in the day, the club inducted its younger club, Interact Club of Mafoluku Junior Grammar School in Oshodi area of Lagos state.
